From the hard, sweaty days of the silver rush, to the quiet sunsets of today's tourist season, there's two things that have always defined Nelson, a healthy thirst and good taste.  And after more than 100 years, these remain the foundation of the Nelson Brewing Company.

The historic NBC brewery still towers above Nelson's downtown core, the same building where the original Nelson Brewing and Ice Company was created by an English nobleman, John Rowley, in 1897.

Like the Nelson itself, the building has seen the NBC through good times and bad.  by the 1950's in the forest industry's glory years, the brewery had become the region's premier beer maker, growing to over nearly a city block and supplying hotels throughout the Kootenays.

The brewery closed a few years later, leaving the region without a locally made beer until 1992 when a collection of local business people revived the plant as the Nelson Brewing Company.
