Castello di Meleto

The land of the Castle of Meleto stretches around the castle for about 1,000 hectares (2,471 acres), 180 of which are destined to the cultivation of the grapevine. The prevailing grapes are Sangiovese, destined to the production of Chianti Classico wine, together with other traditional types of vine. The soil is mostly marl, calcareous marl and alberese: it is just in this barren land that the grapevine gives its best fruits, full of scents and natural fragrances. The names of the estates and the hills remind of a remote Etruscan and Roman-Christian history: Casi, Moci, Pieve di Spaltenna, Camboi, San Piero in Avenano, Poggiarso.
Castello di Meleto Chianti Classico D.O.C.G. 2007
90% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot, 5% Colorino
Bouquet: complex and varied with notes of small red fruits and vanilla
Taste: harmonious, mellow, with a good body, highly persistent finish
“The 2007 Chianti Classico is a sweet, fragrant offering redolent of perfumed red fruits. In this vintage it is especially soft and generous, and I would prefer to enjoy the wine on the young side. The Chianti Classico is 90% Sangiovese, 5% Colorino and 5% Merlot that spends 12 months in cask.”- 89 points, Antonio Galloni, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate
Castello di Meleto Chianti Classico Riserva D.O.C.G “Vigna Casi” 2006
85% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot
Bouquet: attractive velvety aromas, cherries and small berries, with pleasant spicy notes
Taste: round and velvety, with dense and not aggressive tannins. Very long and intense finish with well integrated tannins.
“The estate’s 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna Casi flows from the glass with rich layers of dark red berries, sweet spices, new leather and licorice. Generous and round through to the finish, the 2006 Vigna Casi delivers plenty of pleasure in a relatively accessible style for the vintage. With a little better balance in the use of French oak the Vigna Casi might very well merit a higher score. The fruit alone is striking. The Vigna Casi was aged in equal parts cask and small Frenck oak barrels.” - 89 points, Antonio Galloni, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate
Castello di Meleto Rainero IGT 2004
Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in equal parts
Bouquet: complex, with spicy notes and ripen berries in evidence, with hints of tobacco and coffee
Taste: round and well structured, with dense and ripen tannins, well supported by the alcohol content. The finish is long lasting and very pleasant
“The estate’s 2004 Rainero is equal parts Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 14 months in new French oak. Nothing in particular stands out here, this is just one of those rare wines of outstanding balance and harmony where everything is in the right place. Medium in body, the wine offers a core of dark fruit beautifully framed by finessed, ripe tannins and beautifully-integrated oak. It is another outstanding effort from Castello di Meleto.” - 92 points, Antonio Galloni, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate
